Common Questions
Hiring the services of a Professional Organizer offers you:
- Hands on help that is non-judgemental and objective and keeps the project on track
- Someone to help you break the project down into manageable pieces and then be there to physically help and hold you accountable to getting the work completed in a timely manner, so you can get to that feeling of accomplishment!
- An organized space can reduce stress and anxiety, increase mental clarity, productivity and save time and money that you can use in other ways to enhance your life
- An Organizer can customize solutions and systems that can help you maintain your accomplishment moving forward and can be continued support if routine maintenance is something that suits your situation.
Professional Organizers choose this work to help bring peace and ease into our clients lives. We approach every client without judgment, and with compassion and respect for each unique situation. We deeply value the trust you place in us when you invite us into your space, and our goal is to guide you from feeling overwhelmed to feeling at ease.
As a trained Professional Organizer, I follow the POC Code of Ethics, which emphasizes empathy and strong interpersonal communication. Just as importantly, I’m a regular person! I have my own experience raising a family, packing, moving, downsizing, having clutter and areas in need of organization! I understand firsthand what it feels like, and I’m here to help in a way that’s both supportive and relatable.
Absolutely! As a Professional Organizer, and through my previous career in healthcare where I handled sensitive personal and financial information, I am highly aware of the importance of confidentiality. As a POC-trained Professional Organizer, I am also bound by a Code of Ethics that clearly requires me to respect the private nature of your information and our work together.
I would never share my client list, and any testimonials or photos of completed work would only ever be used with your explicit permission—neither of which is ever required. If you’d like to share your positive experience working with me with friends and family, that’s wonderful—but it’s never expected or required.
Each situation is unique. When organizing a space where you live or work, we’ll typically collaborate on some—if not all—of the process. I can offer guidance to make decision-making easier, along with hands-on support to help move things along efficiently. Together, we’ll sort, organize and create systems that are practical and sustainable for you. You will NEVER be pressured to part with something you do not feel ready to part with.
In other cases—such as preparing a short-term rental or clearing a space for sale—it may make sense for me to work more independently after we’ve agreed on the plan. Even then, while the work can move forward without you being on-site, I will always consult you before anything is donated or removed.
Please note: While it may not be appropriate sometimes for the person who owns the space to physically do the work with me, I’m not able to organize or clear out someone else’s space without their consent. While it can seem thoughtful to hire a Professional Organizer as a “gift” for a friend or family member, I can only move forward after meeting with them and confirming they’re open to the process. Hiring an organizer is a personal decision, and for it to be successful, everyone involved needs to be on board.
I typically find that sessions of 3–4 hours, are the most productive. (with breaks as needed of course) That said, I recognize that sorting, organizing, and packing can be both physically and mentally demanding, especially for seniors, so I’m happy to adjust to what feels manageable on a case by case basis. The productivity of sessions will also depend on your ability to make decisions.
The pace is always guided by your comfort and preferences as well as the deadline we have for the project. In some cases with tight deadlines we may work for longer sessions or I can also take on part of the project independently once we have established the plan.
My business hours are typically Monday-Friday 9-5, however, some flexibility may be available for a Saturday morning visit, on a case by case basis.
Once we have made contact (please see all the ways you can contact me from the Contact page!) the steps generally look like this:
- I will reach out by phone to meet you and at the same time we will set up an in-person assessment visit, (there is an assessment fee, please see rates.)
- Following our in-person assessment, I’ll create a tailored plan with a clear timeline and present it to you. This initial meeting is also a great opportunity for us to get to know each other. It’s important that you feel comfortable and confident that we’re a good fit—we’ll be spending meaningful time working together.
- Once we’ve agreed on the plan and timeline, we’ll begin according to our scheduled dates. As we move forward, we’ll continue to assess progress and make adjustments as needed to ensure everything stays on track.
I make every effort to be as sustainable as possible with my business and will work with you to create the least amount of waste possible. As we move through the organizing process, you may come across items you’d like to donate, sell, recycle, or let go of once they’ve reached the end of their lifespan. Finding new homes for and transporting these items can be part of my services, something you prefer to manage yourself, or a combination of both. Many times, we can also repurpose items found in your own space as part of our new organizing system.
No, there’s no requirement to purchase special organizing products. In many cases, we can create effective systems using items you already have—you might be surprised by what’s already on hand.
If you have a particular look in mind, or if we find that a few additional items would enhance the system, we can explore those options together. Any suggested purchases will always be discussed with you in advance.
No, I don’t offer cleaning services. While we will tidy your space, remove garbage, and do light cleaning where it supports the organizing process (such as dusting a shelf or sweeping behind items), the focus of my work is on organizing.
That said, our work together will leave your space well-prepared to benefit from a thorough cleaning. If you’re looking for a professional cleaner, I’d be happy to provide recommendations.
Yes, I carry both General Liability and Professional E&O Insurance (certificate can be provided if necessary)
